Windows Phone 7

So Microsoft will debut its new Windows Phone 7 on October 11. Personally, I think that this is good for the consumer cause the more phones there are, the cheaper the phones and service will be. Expectations are high for this new Windows Phone 7, but the biggest challenge may not be in the device market, but in convincing third-party developers to create content for the platform. However, Microsoft is offering cash incentives for Windows Phone 7 developers. I guess only time will tell how Microsoft does with this new phone, but what do you guys think? Will the Windows Phone 7 be the next biggest hit after the iPhone?

  1. I feel like all I do is comment about phones, but I've been in the process of deciding on my next one. That's probably why! I'm not sure how Windows 7 mobile will stack up. I just turned over my iPhone for a new Samsung Captivate running Android. While I still like my mac, I couldn't take the iPhone anymore. I felt too locked in to what Apple wanted. For example, they just recently allowed users to use multiple apps at once. The Android phones have been doing it for a while I think. We've talked about how innovation trumps optimization, and I think this is one good example of that. Apple didn't allow it because they wanted to prevent the apps from crashing. I get that, but it just comes across as their trying to have complete control. Also, I think it will be hard for microsoft to compete with an open source alternative.
